On of my HP printers in one of my computer labs went down and it had a error code, so I went HP web site to look up the error code. I already kind of knew what the code meant, but I wanted to be sure, so I found my printer on HP web site and low and behold the defination for the error was not listed. So I decided to call HP support to confirm what I thought the error code meant, this was the conversation:

me: I have a printer error that I would like you to tell me what it means?

HP: Can I have the serial number of the printer?

me Ok, it is xxxxxxxxx.

HP: That printer is out of warranty, you need to pay 21.00 for support.

me: Are you saying that I need to pay 21.00 so you can tell what your error means that is not listed on your web page?

HP: yes

me: You have got to be kidding!!!!

HP: You can try our online web support, it's free.

me: Ok

I bring up the HP web site on my computer and navigate to HP's web support page and then log onto the web support page.

me: I have a printer problem and I am not sure of the error code.

HP: Can I have the serial number of the printer?

me: Ok, xxxxxxxxx

HP: That printer is not under warranty any more you have to pay 21.00 for support.

me: Are you telling me that I need to pay 21.00 so you can tell me what HP's error code means?

HP: yes, or go find the error code on the HP web page

By this time my German temper (which you know most of the time I am calm and collect) I am irrate.

me: thanks for the non-support, the error is not on HP's web site

I then close the web page thinking some choice (like in Star Trek) colorful adjectives.

This is just crap. Why do I have to pay HP for information that is indigenous to them, dealing with their equipment and error codes that only they know?

Father's Day

Ode to a Father:

Who I am today is influenced, shaped, and molded by my relationship I had with dad. Dad's sense of humor, and desire to have fun has had a direct impact on my life and how I raised my own childern. The humors tricks and pranks that dad played on me, I passed onto my children. For example my kids would take off out the door, and then I would call them back and then asked that all important question,"How far would you have gotten if I would not have called you back?"

I love roller coasters, and that love of ridding rollercoasters is because dad loved to ride them, and he loved to take me and I love the feeling of loosing my stomach on that first big fall of the coaster. One time when were vacationing in California me and dad ventured out our own without mom's knowledege and found a rollercoaster on the beach, we rode about 5 times ( I really do not remember how many times, but it was alot ). It was sooooooooo much fun, as soon as we got of the rollercoaster we ran back to get inline so we could ride it again. I have done that with my kids, one time we were at Bush Gardens, and there were not many people, the coaster was open so, me and my kids did the same thing, we got off and then ran to get back on the rollercoaster and rode it numerous time; sooooooo much fun.

Dad would take me with him to the oil riggs and that was fun too, the food, the apple pies. I loved the noise of the oil rigg and big diesel engines that drove the drilling, I always slept best out there, I guess that is why I like my fan so much, the noise.

The one thing that I could not do with dad was to discuss intellectual ideas or the "meaning of life" and I do that with mom now, but dad just had not desire to contimplate the issues, I guess he just did not have it in him. I feel sad the way dad's life ended, I am not sure why his life ended the way it did, but I am sure some of the choices that he made in his life had a direct impact on the way his life ended, but I am glad of the time and fun that I had with dad.

I have not had my own cat since "Panther" to name. We have had cats, but not my cat. Anyways here is my cat, still thinking of a name. I have always liked cats better than dogs, cats reflect my personality I guess that is why I have always liked cats better than dogs. Lilly has the sister.

"The mitochondrial genealogy of humankind has three main branches, know as L1, L2, and L3. L1 and L2 are confined to Africans who lived south of the Sahara. The L3 branch gave rise to a linage known as M, and it was the descendants of M who left Africa." (Before the Dawn, pg 58)

Life started in Africa.
