Dear Diary,
For my fiftieth birthday this year, my wife (the dear) purchased a
week of personal training at the local health club for me. Although
I am still in great shape since playing on my college football team
30 yrs ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give
it a try.
Called the club and made my reservation with a personal trainer
named Belinda, who identified herself as a 26 yr old aerobics
instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. My wife
seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club
encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.
MONDAY: Started my day at 6:00am.
Tough to get out of bed, but it was well worth it when I arrived at
the health club to find Belinda waiting for me. She was something of
a Greek goddess -- with blonde hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling
white smile.
Woo Hoo!!!!!
Belinda gave me a tour and showed me the machines. She took my pulse
after 5 minutes on the treadmill. She was alarmed that my pulse was
so fast, but I attributed it to standing next to her in her Lycra
aerobics outfit. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which she
conducted her aerobics class after my workout today.
Very inspiring, Belinda was encouraging as I did my sit-ups,
although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time
she was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!!
TUESDAY: I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out
the door. Belinda made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar
into the air, and then she put weights on it! My legs were a little
wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. Belinda's
rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT!! It's a whole
new life for me.
WEDNESDAY: The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the
toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over
it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as
long as I didn't try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in
the club parking lot.
Belinda was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered
other club members. Her voice is a little too perky for early in the
morning and when she scolds, she gets this nasally whine that is
VERY annoying.
My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Belinda put me on the
stair monster. Why would anyone invent a machine to
simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Belinda told me
it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. She said some other
useless stuff too.
THURSDAY: Belinda was waiting for me with her vampire-like teeth
exposed as her thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. It
wasn’t my fault I was a half an hour late; it took me that long to tie
my shoes.
Belinda took me to work out with dumbbells. When she was not
looking, I ran and hid in the men's room.. She sent Lars to find me,
then, as punishment, put me on the rowing machine -- which I sank.
FRIDAY: I hate that Belinda more than any human being has ever
hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid,
skinny, anemic little cheerleader. If there were a part of my body I
could move without unbearable pain, I would beat her with it.
Belinda wanted me to work on my triceps. I don't have any triceps.
And if you don't want dents in the floor, don't hand me the *&%
#(#&**!!@*@ barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich.
The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition
teacher. Why couldn't it have been someone softer, like the drama
coach or the choir director?
SATURDAY: Belinda left a message on my answering machine in her
grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just
hearing her made me want to smash the machine with my planner.
However, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended
up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.
SUNDAY: I'm having the Church van pick me up for services today so I
can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that
next year, my wife, will choose a gift for me that is fun like a
root canal or a vasectomy.

The concept of gravity is really not comprehended because it is not understood how gravity is created, mass = gravity and are there little "gravitrons?" Gravity moves at the speed of light and is through out the universe. Before Einstein there was Newton who discribe gravitatation attraction between objects with the following formula:
Fg= G m1m2/r2
G = universal gravitational constant
m = mass
r = seperation between the two masses
On first look at this equation you just assume the attraction is intrinsic with the two masses and nothing else involved, and the equation works. Then along came Einstein and redefined gravity and space = space time, Einstein showed how gravity was warping space, and that warping of space created the orbit the planets around the sun because if that warping was not happening the earth would be traveling the Milky Way in a straight line. So then is gravity really attracting another object or does Newton's formula describe the warping of space that mass objects create and that the effect that the warping of space is creating the attraction on two objects?

I have finished reading the book, "Barbarians" by Terry Jones and Alan Ereira and then watched the DVD's that were part of the book and then shown on the History Channel. The premise of the book was challenging the ideas that the Romans were not civilized but they were the Barbarians not the other nationalities that the Roman's conquered and then the Romans considered them to be barbarians. The nations that surrounded the Roman Empire were in more ways more civilized then the mighty Roman Empire. The best example that exemplifies the point is the Roman coliseum and the thurst for the blood that the Roman nation satisfied there. Nowhere else in any other nation was the killing of innocent people by lions, or by gladiator’s to the amusement and enjoyment of the Roman people that filled the coliseum. I remember studying the Roman Nation in one of my Humanity classes and that my professor said that near the end of the Roman Empire the coliseum was in use 260 days out of the year. That is allot of death for the amusement of a nation. No other nation that surrounded or that was conquered be the Romans made death a national past time. The Romans also treated knowledge from other cultures as either relevant to their needs or irrelevant so it was discarded, which means they burnt libraries. Rome was an Empire for 1000 years and in that time so much general knowledge was lost because it did not serve the Empire. The Catholic Church also bears some blame because when it came to power as the Holy Roman Empire beginning with Charlemagne if the knowledge did not benefit the Church, or in a act of holy rage to stamp out paganism; burn the libraries.
I had always wondered what caused the "Dark Ages" and I think that I stumbled onto one possible answer. The Roman Empire and the Church burnt the world’s libraries that contained the world's knowledge which resulted in man having to rediscover information and ideas that were lost for hundreds of years.
In the TV show a Roman boat was discovered in the Mediterranean and some artifacts were recovered but one artifact was thought insignificant until someone decided to x-ray the artifact. It was then discovered that there was an intricate gear formation that the x-ray picture revealed. Once the machine was recreated it was discovered that the motion of the planets and their position to each other could be revealed with this device. Here is a machine that was created 1000’s of years ago by the Greeks that the plans were no doubt in some library that was burnt by the Roman Empire.
Burning books is not right even if you do not agree with it, you have the power to accept it, or reject it, but burning a book is not an option.

Yea, it's "CANADA DAY."
This is the day that Canada invaded the America Colonies in the war of 1812 and burn't down the then not American (which was not white color at the time) "White House." This action resulted in the Americans rebuilding the burn't White House and then painting the president's house "white," resulting what reguarded now as the "White House." Yea, burning down the house!!!!!! Party, party.

On of my HP printers in one of my computer labs went down and it had a error code, so I went HP web site to look up the error code. I already kind of knew what the code meant, but I wanted to be sure, so I found my printer on HP web site and low and behold the defination for the error was not listed. So I decided to call HP support to confirm what I thought the error code meant, this was the conversation:
me: I have a printer error that I would like you to tell me what it means?
HP: Can I have the serial number of the printer?
me Ok, it is xxxxxxxxx.
HP: That printer is out of warranty, you need to pay 21.00 for support.
me: Are you saying that I need to pay 21.00 so you can tell what your error means that is not listed on your web page?
HP: yes
me: You have got to be kidding!!!!
HP: You can try our online web support, it's free.
me: Ok
I bring up the HP web site on my computer and navigate to HP's web support page and then log onto the web support page.
me: I have a printer problem and I am not sure of the error code.
HP: Can I have the serial number of the printer?
me: Ok, xxxxxxxxx
HP: That printer is not under warranty any more you have to pay 21.00 for support.
me: Are you telling me that I need to pay 21.00 so you can tell me what HP's error code means?
HP: yes, or go find the error code on the HP web page
By this time my German temper (which you know most of the time I am calm and collect) I am irrate.
me: thanks for the non-support, the error is not on HP's web site
I then close the web page thinking some choice (like in Star Trek) colorful adjectives.
This is just crap. Why do I have to pay HP for information that is indigenous to them, dealing with their equipment and error codes that only they know?

Father's Day
Ode to a Father:
Who I am today is influenced, shaped, and molded by my relationship I had with dad. Dad's sense of humor, and desire to have fun has had a direct impact on my life and how I raised my own childern. The humors tricks and pranks that dad played on me, I passed onto my children. For example my kids would take off out the door, and then I would call them back and then asked that all important question,"How far would you have gotten if I would not have called you back?"
I love roller coasters, and that love of ridding rollercoasters is because dad loved to ride them, and he loved to take me and I love the feeling of loosing my stomach on that first big fall of the coaster. One time when were vacationing in California me and dad ventured out our own without mom's knowledege and found a rollercoaster on the beach, we rode about 5 times ( I really do not remember how many times, but it was alot ). It was sooooooooo much fun, as soon as we got of the rollercoaster we ran back to get inline so we could ride it again. I have done that with my kids, one time we were at Bush Gardens, and there were not many people, the coaster was open so, me and my kids did the same thing, we got off and then ran to get back on the rollercoaster and rode it numerous time; sooooooo much fun.
Dad would take me with him to the oil riggs and that was fun too, the food, the apple pies. I loved the noise of the oil rigg and big diesel engines that drove the drilling, I always slept best out there, I guess that is why I like my fan so much, the noise.
The one thing that I could not do with dad was to discuss intellectual ideas or the "meaning of life" and I do that with mom now, but dad just had not desire to contimplate the issues, I guess he just did not have it in him. I feel sad the way dad's life ended, I am not sure why his life ended the way it did, but I am sure some of the choices that he made in his life had a direct impact on the way his life ended, but I am glad of the time and fun that I had with dad.

Hockey
Autotuner asked me the other day if I was watching the NHL playoffs, and I told him that I was watching some of the playoffs but not like years ago. There is no Bobby Orr, Bobby Hull, or Bobby Clark. The players that I knew when I was playing hockey, plus that game that I watched recently there was nothing but hooking, so to me hockey is not as exciting as when I was playing hockey. I have to admit I still miss playing the game, I loved playing hockey, being on the ice. What I did not like was though was Dad refereeing my games, the other teams always thought Dad was harder on them, then us.
I might feel different or excited about hockey if I lived in Edmonton, here in Tampa football is the big thing here, plus it is hard to freeze water in your backyard to create your own rink.

The Olympic Games
I think that it is wrong that the athletes have to sign a piece of paper that basically states that the athletes will not criticize the Chinese government on human rights, or anything else the Chinese Secret Police deems not in the Chinese political interest. The Olympic games in China are to symbloize China becoming a 1st world nation, but at what price. As you know China is one of the world's top polluters, and that is the reason that the world's top marathoner is not running in Beijing, for fear that his lungs would be harmed by the pollution.
For the games to take place the Olympic area where all that athletes are lodging need food, water, and breathable air. So what is the Chinese government plan to accomlish master plan. First, shutdown a few powerplans ( in a 75 mile radius ) it does not matter if the local people have no power for 2 weeks, but it will cut down on the pollution. Second water (H2O); that plan is to divert enough fresh water (from the same 75 mile radius) to enshure that the athletes have enough water, it does not matter if the local people do not have enough water for two weeks. In short China does not have the infrastructure to host the Olympic games or the freedom for people for which I thought the Olympic games represented.

The Flood
There is no evidence that a world wide flood happened, but there is evidence that localized flooding happened, that at the time people would have thought that the whole earth was flooded because to them what they perceived (their surroundings) was the whole earth. Anyways, if whole earth was deluged by water, here is the math.
Since the Earth is only 10,000 years old not much geological change has happened, so I took Mt. Everest as the tallest place on earth, and then added 40 cubits to that height. There is some contention of what a cubit so I just took an average. They think a cubit was between 43 to 56 centimeters long so:
43 + 56 / 2 = 49.5 cm
49.5 cm = 0.000495 km
first the volume of the earth:
V = 4/3 x pi x r3
= (1.3 ) (3.14) (6,371)3
= 1055591332674.502 km3
second, volume of earth plus added the height of Mt Everest
Mt Everest = 8.848 km, add that to the radius of the earth
6371.0 + 8.848 + .000495 = 6379.85 km
Vearth + Mt. Everest = 4/3 x pi x r3
= (1.3)x(3.14)x(6378.85)3
= 1059995436864.56 km3
Volume of water fallen = Vearth - V e + Mt Everest
= 4404104190.06 km3
converting that to gallons of water = 1.163 x 1021
That is one more decimal place that all the water on the earth, and if that much water vapor was in the atmosphere, the atmospheric pressure would have been so great that life could not exist on the earth.

The world is going to end --- 7.6 billion years from now, when the sun engulfs the earth in a supernova. Life on earth only has 1 billion years left, buy then the expanding sun will have boiled the oceans away (fish fry). You will still be able to get a tan though, burnt to a crisp -- toasty; just like Quiznos.
The Sun is 4.5 billion years old, and since the birth of the sun it has consumed 1/2 of the hydrogen in the Sun's core. The temperature of the sun is 15.6 million degrees Kelvin at the core which converted to Celcius is 15,699,726.85 C. At the surface the temperature of the sun is 7000 degrees Celcius.
